A14 - OFFORDS PROTEST REJECTED BY COURT

WIDENING and re-routing the A14 should now proceed without delay, after a High Court judge dismissed a village protest at a three-lane carriageway within a mile of their homes. PUBLIC MEETING - 20 June 2005

A public meeting was held in the Memorial Centre on Monday evening to discuss the proposed improvements by the Highways Agency to the A14.

County Councillor and Brampton Parish Councillor Peter Downes explained the current proposals, how these will affect Brampton and the alternative proposals put forward by Brampton Parish Council to reduce the increased noise and air pollution that the new road will inevitably cause in the village. At the meeting members of the community volunteered to raise a petition to urge the County Council and Highways Agency to consider the alternative proposals that will see the major interchange moved to the north of Brampton Hut and the A1 between Alconbury and Buckden remaining a dual carriageway in both directions. Improvements to the current A14 are necessary but we can limit the impact that this will have on the village. We hope you will be able to give your support to the campaign by signing the petition when it comes round. Petitioners note: The forms are to be returned to Peter Downes by 28th June PM.
