A1/ A603 Sandy Roundabout - essential resurfacing

I'm writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing work on the A1 at the A603 Sandy Roundabout both northbound and southbound direction. Once completed, drivers will experience a smoother, safer road surface.

We plan to complete this work over two nights from Monday 13 October 2025. We will work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the A1 at the A603 Sandy Roundabout both northbound and southbound direction and divert traffic as follows: 

Southbound diversion:

• Drivers should leave the A1 at the Black Cat Roundabout and follow the A421 westbound to Elstow Interchange

• Turn left onto the A600 southbound and continue to Clophill

• At Clophill, turn left onto the A507 eastbound and follow it to Baldock Services at junction 10 of the A1

• From there, join the A1 northbound and continue to the Biggleswade North Roundabout

Northbound diversion:

• Drivers should leave the A1 onto High Road and continue onto Hitchin Road

• Follow Hitchin Road to Bedford Road (A603), then turn left

• Continue on the A603 and take the link road from Girtford Bridge to rejoin the A1 northbound
