Important roadworks information A1 northbound Hail Weston to Buckden Roundabout - resurfacing

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing work to the A1 northbound carriageway between Hail Weston and Buckden Roundabout. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother road surface.

We plan to complete this work over two nights starting on Tuesday 4 November 2025We will work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the A1 northbound carriageway between Hail Weston and Buckden Roundabout and divert traffic as follows:

• Drivers wishing to continue north on the A1, should take the Wyboston exit slip onto Great North Road and follow the fast link onto the A428
• At the Wyboston Roundabout, take the third exit onto A428 and head east towards Caxton.
• At the Cambridge Road/Ermine Street roundabout, take the first exit onto the A1198
• At the next roundabout, take the first exit to remain on the A1198
• Continue to the following roundabout and take the second exit onto St Ives Road (B1040)
• At the next roundabout, take the first exit and return onto the A1198
• At Ermine Street Junction Roundabout, take the first exit to join the A14 at junction 23
• Continue west on the A14 to junction 22, then merge back onto the A1
